Achaia Records is in the early stages of building our very own recording space in the St. Johns area of North Portland… and we are VERY excited about it.

Our design team did a tremendous amount of research on studio design and created a great plan that utilized everything they uncovered in their research.

The design is a bit strange when compared to traditional building as studios seek to avoid parallel walls because of the way sound travels. The design also calls for rooms to be entered through sliding double-pained glass doors. This will increase visibility between each recording room and the control room.

There are two isolation booths at the north end of the studio that are framed separately from each other, which means that there are two walls separating the booths from each other with a 1/4″ air gap. This will help prevent sound from “bleeding” into each room. The large “live room” is in between the two isolation booths and the control booth at the south end of the studio.

There is another double wall separating the live room from the control room. A feature we’re very excited about is that the walls separating the live room and control room are mostly glass. There will be a sliding double pained glass door on one end of the walls and two 1/4″ thick 6′x3′ tall glass sheets on the other end.

We just finished the framing stage and are gearing up to start wiring and insulating.

There is also an adjacent room along the eastern side of the studio that we’re turning into a lounge where musicians and engineers can retreat to give their ears a rest and recharge their creative juices.

Check out the photos on the left to see the progress we’ve made thus far. So EXCITING!

E.D. Mondainé & Belief recently wrote and recorded a special tribute to the community of Joplin, MO entitled “Cry Loud.” Joplin is the town in southwest Missouri that was recently devastated by the most destructive tornado to hit the United States in over 60 years.

E.D. Mondainé actually wrote the lyrics for the song about a week before the tornado hit. He says felt the inspiration of the Holy Spirit prompting his pen to write in a way that he had never done before. The lyrics touched heavily on Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ, a subject that he had never previously touched. Upon hearing about the tornado in Joplin, Pastor Mondainé felt called to offer aid and support to the people of Joplin and to use Cry Loud as the anthem for this call.

Only a few days after feeling called to help the people of Joplin, he visited their community and walked amongst them. As he moved throughout the city, he came upon a single statue standing in the midst of a field of rubble. It was Mary, battered, dirty, but standing firmly in prayer. Pastor Mondainé believes this was a sign confirming that Cry Loud was indeed intended for the people of Joplin.

The group Voices of a Thousand Angels, which was founded by E.D. Mondiané in 2006, is currently organizing to travel from Portland, OR to Joplin, MO in order to bring messages of hope through music to a healing community. All proceeds from the sale of Cry Loud will be used to aid their efforts to reach the people of Joplin and also to help fund relief agencies that are on the ground helping to rebuild the city and people of that community.

Po’ Shines Café de la Soul, Achaia Records, Inc., and Voices of a Thousand Angels present E.D. Mondainé & Belief live in concert on Saturday July 9th at 6pm. This special event is a fundraising dinner theater to help Voices of a Thousand Angels reach Joplin, MO in order to aid in the healing of the people recently devastated by the most destructive tornado to hit the United States in over 60 years.

Po’ Shines Café, known throughout Portland for their community outreach, is generously donating all proceeds from food and beverage sales made at the dinner theater to the Angels group in order to help them take flight for what will be their third and most ambitious mission yet.

Voices of a Thousand Angels is a Portland based group that was created in 2006 by Pastor Elbert Mondainé following news of the shooting of five Amish girls in their school house in Lancaster County, PA.
Pastor Mondainé’s inspiration led the Angels to their first mission just a few short weeks after the Amish tragedy. Members of the group flew across country at their own expense, met with local clergy and media, and hosted the first Voices of a Thousand Angels concert in downtown Lancaster, PA.
A year later, the Angels were again in action, this time to Price, UT. The Crandall Canyon Mine in Utah’s coal country collapsed in August of 2007, trapping six miners below and leaving a community in need of hope. In just three weeks after the initial collapse, the Voices of a Thousand Angels had connected with local clergy and city officials, in particular Mayor Joe Piccolo, traveled hundreds of miles at their own expense, and helped organize a musical tribute and candlelight vigil that was highlighted by a mass choir of children singing “Oh Ye God Alone,” a song written by Pastor Mondainé specifically for the event.
Now, the group is again preparing to travel to a community left picking up the pieces following the most devastating tornado to hit the United States in over 60 years. The Angels are heading to Joplin, MO.
Contacts with leaders of the Salvation Army and local officials in Joplin have been made and arrangements for the event to take place the week of July 17th are in process. Funds and donations are being made to help the group travel. Cry Loud, a song written by Pastor Mondainé for the people of Joplin, is available for purchase on their website (http://achaiarecords.com/belief-music/). All proceeds from sales of Cry Loud and their fundraising efforts will go directly to help the group reach Joplin as well as to relief agencies that are on the ground helping to rebuild the city and people of Joplin, MO.
The fundraising dinner theater concert on July 9th to help Voices of a Thousand Angels get to Joplin, MO is free for all to attend; though, donations of any size will be warmly welcomed. Po’ Shines Café is putting together a special menu for patrons of the event to purchase and enjoy.

The dinner theater will take place adjacent to Po’ Shines Café at 8131 N Denver Ave in the Kenton Neighborhood of North Portland. For more information about Voices of a Thousand Angels, please visit http://voicesof1000angels.org.
